Okanagan Folk School Presenters September 3, 2022

The following presentation will be held on the stage and for a 20-minute duration.

Annabel Stanley           10:30 am

Annabel is an international recognized fibre artist with works in collections, publications and featured in some of our local galleries. She will be demonstrating some of the basic techniques to get you started in the fibre arts. Instructor with Okanagan Folk School.

Dawn Boys                     11:10 am

Dawn is a registered yoga therapist, Ayurvedic councillor, personal trainer, trail runner and forager. With Dawn’s Ayurveda training she has been designing body care products using many local ingredients for over 20 yrs. She will be demonstrating some of these products today. Instructor with Okanagan Folk School.

Denise Miller                 12:00 pm

Storytelling crosses all barriers and excels as a great way to get a message across or entertain your listeners. Denise has been a performance storyteller for over 30 years and also offers keynotes and workshops focused on many topics and aspects of storytelling. She has monthly storytelling courses listed with the Okanagan Folk School for the Fall calendar – talk with her about that if you are interested. She will also take the stage to introduce a new idea to the Okanagan called the Story Slam, where writers and spoken word artists can share their stories and perhaps win some cash for their efforts. Put your contact info on the list at her table to be kept posted on details as they develop.

Denise Olyelese            12:40 pm

Denise takes many colours of wool and creates beautiful clothing and art pieces. She will demonstrate how she does this by using a wet felting process. Instructor with Okanagan Folk School.

Linda Lovisa                  1:40 pm

Linda’s paintings have appeared in exhibits across Canada and the United States and can be found in private and public collections nationally and internationally. Linda has been presented by The Federation of Canadian Artists, a Gold Award, and an Award of Excellence. To day Linda will be demonstrating a landscape in acrylic that will be auctioned off to raise money for the Folk School.

Shauna McKenney        2:15 pm

25 years ago, she was introduced to stained glass and has been hooked ever since.  Shauna describes it as designing and building your unique glass puzzle.  Working with the various colors, textures, and patterns of glass allows endless creativity and produces unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Shauna will demonstrate how to get started in this beautiful medium.

Cesar Alvarez                3 pm

Cesar is a muti talented artist with institutional degrees as well as practical experience in making art. He is well versed in painting, wood burning and carving. Today Cesar with demonstrate the basic use of hand tools and how the wood responds by showing you some spoon carving.

Lee Etherington       All day

Lee is a skilled chainsaw carving artist and a local Peachlander. He will be in the front of the Peachland Community Centre demonstration his craft and answering questions. He will also have carvings available for purchase.

Additional Attractions

Our Simply Gourmet, Brian Greekas, will be offering one of his dishes of garlic prawns on rice. This culinary delight will be available for $5 per serving.

Yea Old Tea and Coffee Shoppe

The Okanagan Folk School is hosting a lovely cake, tea, and coffee lounge where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the surrounding activities.
